The Bamboo Groove

A Distant Visitor

Alongside the hydrangea walkway, near the old guardian’s lodgings, stands the Giant Bamboo Grove. The bamboo was probably introduced in the park in the nineteenth century to add an exotic touch, in an era when collecting plants and creating prestigious botanical gardens was all the rage.

Here, as in the rest of the gardens, water is fundamental, provided by a wide network of canals supplied by the Chisone stream. Restoration work on the embankments and locks has restored the original canal network and today, as in the past, it is thanks to these canals that the entire six hectares of the park are irrigated.

Turning toward the Great Lawn, the peak of Monviso can be admired in the distance, beyond the castle’s towers.
